  • Description: Bologna – City of Peace Various official and citizen-led initiatives in Bologna for “1968 – Year of Peace”. 22 December 1967, Cardinal Giacomo Lercaro visiting Palazzo d'Accursio, to pass on a message from the Pope for the day of peace to Mayor Guido Fanti and the municipal council. Peace is also the theme of the meeting of the neighbourhood councils. Following a series of photographs of the War in Vietnam, a visit by a delegation of Vietnamese trade unionists to Palazzo d’Accursio. Then some footage of a refugee camp in the Middle East, a visit to Palazzo d’Accursio by a delegation from Jordan, for the delivery of aid on behalf of the City of Bologna; the Mayor, on the other hand, receives an honorary award from the delegation. A visit by a delegation from the city of Kharkiv in the Soviet Union, with which Bologna has agreed to be twinned: accompanied by the mayor, the delegation visiting some local industries (including the Corticella pasta factory), the University and the cooperative complexes. The inauguration of an exhibition of works by Polish artists: proceeds will be donated to the city of Florence for the restoration of works of art destroyed by flooding. In Piazza Maggiore, a crowd awaits the arrival of the car carrying Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova. The cosmonaut receiving bouquets of flowers, together with the mayor laying a wreath at the Partisan Memorial, and participating in various meetings amidst general jubilation. Finally, a peace demonstration in Piazza Maggiore and through the streets of the city. The mayor also participates. This film is the property of the Emilia-Romagna Gramsci Foundation.
